Maths Curriculum

The aims of our maths teaching at Regents Park Primary School are set in line with the aims of the National Curriculum: fluency, reasoning and problem solving. We understand that children need to learn basic number facts and acquire fluency in procedures, alongside developing conceptual understanding if they are to be able to solve increasingly complex problems.

We use the Bright Pi teaching sequence to plan our maths lessons. This is supplemented by the DfE Maths Guidance alongside the White Rose Progression overviews in order to support children's mathematical learning and bridge any gaps.

Mastering Number Project

This academic year we continue to take part in the NCETM Mastering Number Project for Reception and KS1.

This project aims to secure firm foundations in the development of good number sense for all children from Reception through to Year 1 and Year 2. The aim over time is that children will leave KS1 with fluency in calculation and a confidence and flexibility with number. Attention will be given to key knowledge and understanding needed in Reception classes, and progression through KS1 to support success in the future. (NCETM)
