Forest School

Our Motto
Be kind to yourself, others, and nature.

Our Vision
“Forest School is a specialised learning approach that sits within and complements the wider context of outdoor and woodland education.” (Forest School Association)

At Regents Park, we recognise that Forest School offers rich opportunities for holistic learning. We value the importance of giving every child time to play, explore, and discover in their own way. Play supports children’s health, wellbeing, and happiness; it nurtures curiosity, fosters a love of learning, and contributes to healthy brain development.

Our Objectives
Through Forest School we aim to:

  • Develop children’s ability to thrive and grow in self-confidence.

  • Promote independence and resilience.

  • Strengthen physical, emotional, social, intellectual, and spiritual skills.

Our Approach
At Regents Park, Forest School sessions are largely child-led, as choice is integral to meaningful learning. Each session begins with an initial hook, which may lead to a group activity or game. Children are encouraged to develop an interest in the natural world, follow their own ideas, challenge themselves, and think critically. Practitioners facilitate this learning through careful observation and support.

Sessions close with a reflective circle, where children can share what they enjoyed, how the session made them feel, and what they might like to explore next time.
