  • Change of part-time teacher in 4VL on Thursdays & Fridays

Wed 09 Apr 2025 Mr Beale

    Dear Parents/ Carers,

I am writing to let you know that there will be a change of one part-time class teacher in 4VL after half term.

Mrs Latif, who teaches 4VL on Wednesday to Friday, will be starting her maternity leave during the Easter holiday. As such, this Friday 11th April, will be her last day with 4VL before starting her maternity leave. We all wish her well and look forward to hearing the news of another addition to her family soon!

Obviously this means we will have to make an unavoidable change of class teacher for part of the week in 4VL. I understand this may be unsettling for the children in 4VL and for yourselves as parents; however, we have looked at a number of teachers who can take over in 4VL part-time and I’m pleased to let you know we have appointed a new teacher, Miss Bibi, who will work with the class on Thursdays & Fridays during the Summer term.

As such, we have decided on the following plan for 4VL starting in the week beginning Monday 28th April:

    • Mrs Vara - Monday & Tuesday
    • Miss Paddem – Wednesday morning
    • Y4 PPA (Mr Crawford/ Mrs Hazelwood – Wednesday afternoon
    • Miss K Bibi – Thursday & Friday

Mrs Vara and Miss Bibi will be the main 4VL class teachers; Miss Paddem will cover the class on Wednesday mornings until Mr Crawford and Mrs Hazelwood take over to do PE and Forest School as part of Y4 PPA on Wednesday afternoon.

I am confident that this arrangement will be successful for the remaining term and that the children's learning in 4VL will not be disrupted as a consequence. However, should you wish to discuss this matter further, feel free to contact either myself, Miss Paddem or Mrs Vara (AHT for Upper School).

    Yours faithfully,

    Mr A Beale

    Headteacher

  • Change of class teacher in 5SA from 28th April 2025

Mon 07 Apr 2025 Mr Beale

    Dear Parents/ Carers,

I am writing to let you know that unfortunately there will be a change of class teacher in 5SA after half term.

I am very sad to let you know that Mrs Abbas will be leaving Regents Park at the end of this week and that Friday 11th April will be her last day. Mrs Abbas joined Regents Park in September 2003 and her experience working across school will be very sadly missed. We'd like to thank her for all her hard work at Regents Park over what has almost been 22 years teaching and supporting the children and families of Regents Park and wish her all the very best for the future.

Obviously it is always unfortunate to have a change of teacher part way through a school year and I understand that this may be unsettling for the children in 5SA and for yourselves as parents.

However, I'd like to reassure you that we have organised for one of our most experienced and senior teachers, Miss Khan, to take over on the two days that Mrs Abbas is normally in class. This means that after the Easter holiday, from the week beginning 28th April, 5SA will be taught by:

    • Mrs Siddique – Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday

    • Miss Khan - Thursday and Friday

As such, I am confident that the children's learning in 5SA will not be disrupted. However, should you wish to discuss this matter further, feel free to contact either myself, Miss Paddem or Mrs Vara (AHT for Upper School).

    Yours faithfully,

    Mr A Beale

    Headteacher

  • Eid Mubarak - We will celebrate Eid in school on Tuesday 1st April

Sun 30 Mar 2025 Mr Beale

Eid Mubarak to all the children, parents and community of Regents Park! Whether you are celebrating Eid today (Sunday) or on Monday 31st March, we hope you all have a wonderful time with your family and friends.

School will be open as normal on Monday 31st March for all children and staff not celebrating Eid on that day.

We are anticipating that ALL children will return to school the following day on Tuesday 1st April when we will celebrate Eid in school. On Tuesday, children can come to school in Eid/ party clothes. We will provide party food for children at lunchtime (children who don't normally order lunch can do on this day if parents let the office know) and we will be organising in-class parties for children in the afternoon.

Please note: We can only authorise ONE day of absence due to Religious Observance to children that are Muslim on Monday 31st March. Any other absence will be unauthorised unless it is for another authorised reason.

Thank you and Eid Mubarak once again!

    Mr Beale

  • The Big Walk & Wheel 2025 - Monday March 24th - Friday April 4th 2025

Thu 20 Mar 2025 Mr Beale

    Dear Parents/ Carers,

We would like to continue to encourage parents to leave their cars at home or at least park away from school and walk the last 5-10 minutes to the school gates. This encourages children to be healthier, makes it safer around school and reduces the effects of air pollution.

As such, next week we will be taking part in The Big Walk & Wheel. We'd like to encourage children to either walk, cycle or scoot to school between Monday 24th March and Friday 4th April. Trips that children make on foot or by bike or scooter will be counted and we will be finding out which class has made the most - the class with the most trips will win The Golden Pedal.

When children arrive at school, they will be given a ticket by a member of staff at the gate to show they have either walked, cycled or scooted to school. Children who come by car and then park and walk/ scoot/ cycle must have travelled at least 5 minutes by foot/ bike/ scooter, i.e. they must not have parked on Arthur Street/ Camelot Way/ Dixon Road.

Bikes and scooters can be left in the scooter/ bike stands by the Nursery, in the playground or outside the office.

The Big Walk & Wheel is a national competition being run by Sustrans to encourage children to use alternative, healthier methods of transport to get to school. The total number of trips will be recorded nationally and the school may win local and national prizes.

We hope everyone will try and take part every day; if not, even one or two non-car days will help per week. Please support your children, keep everyone safe, help encourage children to be healthy and leave your cars at home if possible.

    Thank you.

  • Important Notice: sQuid payment system no longer available from 14th March 2025

Wed 12 Mar 2025 Mr Beale

    Dear Parents/Carers,

Important Notice: sQuid payment system no longer available from 14th March 2025

We regret to inform you that sQuid, the system currently used for paying for school meals and trips, has gone into liquidation.  As a result, sQuid will no longer be available for payments after Friday 14th March 2025.

We are arranging for a new cashless payment system to be put in place, hopefully starting from Monday 2nd June 2025.

In the meantime, from Monday, 17th March 2025, all payments must be made in cash and sent to the school office.  If you require money bags for sending in cash payments, please email enquiry@rgntpark.bham.sch.uk with your child’s full name and class, and we will send a few home with your child.

Any outstanding balances on your child’s dinner money account should also be paid in cash. Mrs. Smith will inform you of the amount owed.

Although you will not be able to make payments on the system after 14th March, you have until Friday 11th April 2025 to request a refund if your child’s sQuid account is in credit.  If you need support with how to do this, please contact the school office.  After 11th April, the sQuid system will be inaccessible and reimbursements will not be available, so please ensure you have requested any refunds before this date.

We will let you know more about the new cashless payment system as soon as we can. We will offer parent support sessions before the May half term break to assist with setting up accounts once the new system is in place.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation during this transition. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the school office.

    Yours sincerely,

    Mr A Beale

  • Y5 & Y6 children fasting during Ramadan 2025

Thu 27 Feb 2025 Mr Beale

    Dear Parents/ Carers,

Next week sees the start of the Holy Month of Ramadan and so it is important that all parents understand the school’s responsibilities to those children who may wish to consider fasting.

Over the years, we have taken advice from a range of sources (Government, Local Authority and various Islamic organisations) and recognise that children under the age of 10 years are generally not required to fast but that parents/carers may request that their child in Year 5 or Year 6 take part in some fasting.

The school is happy to provide support for Year 5 and Year 6 pupils who wish to fast but needs to make clear its responsibilities, together with those of the parents/carers. Primary age children become very tired when they do not have regular meals and are sometimes unable to safely perform the activities expected of them during the course of a school day. Children in other year groups will not be permitted to fast on school days.

For parents of pupils in Y5 and Y6, we want to explain the procedures that will be followed to ensure the well-being of your child or children:

    1. ‘Request to Fast’ Form – Y5 & Y6 parents who wish to give permission for their child to fast during Ramadan whilst at school, will need to complete and sign the form going home today and return it to school before fasting begins on Monday. Children will not be allowed to fast unless this form has been returned. This form is only available to parents of children in Y5 & Y6 – pupils in other year groups should not fast during the school day. The form will be sent home with Y5 and Y6 children today.
    2. Curriculum – Children who are fasting are expected to take part in all areas of the curriculum as normal during Ramadan, including PE and music
    3. Requests for Food – As the school is required to take care of all pupils and cannot ignore the needs of a hungry or thirsty child, the staff will comply with requests for food or drink received from a child, even if a completed form has been provided. Contact will be made with parents/ carers as soon as possible afterwards
    4. Illness – If a child appears to be experiencing adverse physical or emotional effects due to fasting, e.g. dizziness, nausea, distress, etc., staff will offer that child food or drink, even if a completed form has been provided. Staff will call the child’s parents or carers, and may call the emergency services, if they believe that it is necessary.

I hope that the above is clear, but please do not hesitate to contact a member of the school leadership or the school office if you have any questions.

    Yours sincerely,

    Mr A Beale

  • Letter from Mr Beale – Retirement as Headteacher on 31st August 2025

Fri 14 Feb 2025 Mr Beale

    Dear Parents, Carers and Pupils,

I am writing to let you know that after 11 years at Regents Park Community Primary School, I will be retiring as Headteacher on 31st August 2025.

Having led at Regents Park since May 2014, I am able to say that I am immensely proud of our school and to have worked within such a wonderful local community. It has been a privilege to work alongside such a hard-working and dedicated team of staff over the years and to have been supported by a superb leadership team and Governing Board.

I am very grateful for the support I have had from parents, carers and the wider community during my time at Regents Park – I know that you all want the best for your children and it has been a pleasure to work with you in achieving this.

Most importantly, I have enjoyed seeing the children of Regents Park develop and make progress over the last 11 years. Children at Regents Park achieve well and make excellent progress – this is not just seen in English and maths results at the end of Year 6, but also in the achievements they make in other areas of the curriculum throughout their time at Regents Park, e.g. sport, music, science, art, computing, or developing their confidence in speaking, social skills, caring for each other and the environment, etc. One of the best things as a Headteacher is knowing that children are happy, that they want to come to school and that they enjoy and want to learn new things.

It is going to be difficult to say goodbye to this wonderful school but, at the moment, that is still six months away and there is lots do before then!

After half term, the vacancy for the Headteacher position from September will be advertised and the Governing Board, supported by the Local Authority, will be responsible for the recruitment process. Hopefully a new Headteacher will be appointed by the end of next half term and I will keep you updated when I can about this. I am sure the school, under new leadership from September, will continue to be successful and go from strength to strength.

In the meantime, and until the end of the Summer term, I will endeavour to make sure the transition to new leadership takes place smoothly and with minimal disruption and will also continue to work hard with yourselves and the staff team to ensure all the children receive the best possible education and learning experiences we can offer in the coming months.

I hope you and the children all have a good holiday next week. Don’t forget that the children return to school on Monday 24th February at 8.40am and that we will be closed on Wednesday 26th February for a staff training day.

    Kind regards,

    Mr A Beale

Information for parents - End of term news and Goodbye to Miss Bibi and Mrs Preece

    Dear Parents/ Carers,

We are nearly at the end of Autumn term, so there are a few important messages to share with you.

Early finish at 1.00pm on Friday 20th December

As in previous years, please note that school closes early for the Christmas holiday on Friday 20th December at 1.00pm. Children will have lunch before they leave. They will be available for collection from the usual school locations at 1.00pm.

School reopens for ALL pupils on Tuesday 7th January 2025 at 8.40am

Please also note that school reopens after the holiday for ALL pupils on Tuesday 7th January 2025 at 8.40am. There is a Staff Training day on Monday 6th January so school is CLOSED to pupils on this day.

Other schools may be open/ closed at different times during that week; however, we are expecting ALL children to be in school at Regents Park on Tuesday 7th January at 8.40am as usual.

Non-Uniform Day and Christmas Parties on Thursday 19th December 2024

We will be having a non-uniform/ Christmas jumper day with Christmas parties taking place in the afternoon on Thursday 19th December 2024. Children in Nursery will have their Christmas party in the morning and we will be in touch separately with Nursery parents to let them know how we will make arrangements for them.

Children will be able to come to school in their party clothes on Thursday 19th and make a £1 donation to the School Fund - this can be paid in cash on the day or on sQuid. Money donated to School Fund helps to pay for special events when we celebrate things like Christmas and Eid in school so we do appreciate your donations towards this.

Children will have Christmas party food at lunchtime on Thursday - this means we don't have to worry about children bringing food into school which is safer for children with allergies and hopefully means less food is wasted. Again, we will let parents in Nursery know separately how we will organise their Christmas parties in the morning.

Children who normally bring a packed lunch may order a school meal and have Christmas party food on this day (cost is £2.40 - please contact the school office as normal) or they may bring their packed lunch as normal to have with the other children.

As well as wearing non-uniform on Thursday, children will also be able to do so on Friday when we will finish at 1.00pm.

Celebration Assemblies and Y4/ Y5/ Y6 Guitar Concert next week

We have Celebration Assemblies taking place next week - parents should be informed if their child will receive a Gold Achievers certificate. Please make sure if you are attending one of the assemblies that you are in the hall on time at 9.00am.

    • Monday 16th December at 9.00am - Upper School Celebration Assembly (Y4, Y5 & Y6)
    • Tuesday 17th December at 9.00am - EYFS/ Lower School Celebration Assembly (Nursery, Reception, Y1, Y2 & Y3)

On Thursday 19th December at 9.15am, we would also like to invite all parents of children in Y4, as well as parents of children in Y5 and Y6 who are learning to play guitars to join us for a special Guitar concert. We hope as many parents as possible will join us for this!

Goodbye Miss Bibi and Mrs Preece

It is very sad that we are saying goodbye to two members of staff at the end of this term.

Miss Bibi has been teaching in Y1 this year and previously taught in Y2. Miss Preece has worked as our Learning Mentor over the last 3 years and has supported children from across school.

Both are moving on to do other things and so we'd like to thank them for their work at Regents Park and wish them all the very best in everything they do in the future.

We are in the process of interviewing and making appointments to cover both of the vacancies created by their departures and will let parents know when this has been finalised.

    Have a Happy Holiday!

I hope all children, parents and families have a wonderful holiday. To those of you who are celebrating, have a very Merry Christmas and I'd like to wish you all a Happy New Year! See you all on Tuesday 7th January!

    Thank you,

    Mr Beale
