  • School CLOSED on Mon 19th Sept and Camelot Way CLOSED to traffic on Tues 20th Sept 2022

Fri 16 Sep 2022 Mr Beale

    Dear Parents/ Carers

Just a reminder that school is CLOSED on Monday 19th September to mark the passing of Queen Elizabeth II on the day of her State Funeral.

We will reopen for all pupils as normal on Tuesday 20th September at 8.40am.

However, I have to let you know that Camelot Way will be CLOSED to all traffic from 1.30pm to 4.00pm on Tuesday 20th September.

You may remember that in March we organised an event with the Active Wellbeing Society (TAWS) with activities on the road. We are doing a similar event again but this time working in partnership with All Saints Church on Herbert Road who are launching a community cafe.

The Active Wellbeing Society (TAWS) is a community benefit society and cooperative, working across Birmingham to develop healthy, happy communities living active and connected lives. You can find out more about them on their website: https://theaws.co.uk

This time there will not only be activities on Camelot Way but also in Sarah Park from 2.00pm to 4.00pm so we do hope that all our children, parents and families will join in.

Keeping children and families safe on the streets around our school is very important to us so we hope you will support us by not driving your car on these roads on Tuesday 20th September. It would be even better if you would then think about parking away from school on subsequent days and avoiding driving down Camelot Way at all to drop off and pick up children.

If you'd like to be involved and help us on the day we are looking for people who can act as stewards and keep everyone safe. Please feel free to contact the office and leave your name if you're willing to volunteer.

We look forward to seeing you at the event next week when all children are back in school on Tuesday 20th September.

    Thank you,

    Mr Beale

  • Reminder for parents - Dismissal of pupils at the end of the day

Wed 14 Sep 2022 Mr Beale

    Dear Parents/ Carers,

We have had some concerns about the organisation of pupil dismissal at the end of the day. Staff are increasingly concerned that parents are not following guidlines put in place previously so I am reminding parents of the following:

Collection of pupils in the playground:

    • Family groups and other agreed groups of children (such as those going home with childminders) are collected from the playground
    • Parents should remain behind the line marked in the playground at all times so that staff can keep a check on where children are and who they are going with - the line has been repainted so it is clear where it is
    • Parents must not stand at one end of the playground and call children from the other end of the playground. Parents should get as close to where they are opposite their children's classes before they are released to them
    • Please don't try to take children from the class until the class are fully in the playground
    • Staff need to know who has taken children so will keep them until they are sure

Collection of pupils from Camelot Way:

    • Single children from Reception, Y1, Y5 and Y6 are collected from this entrance
    • We try to stagger entry through the gate to avoid overcrowding
    • Please do not enter through the gate until your child's year group has been called
    • Please move around the play area in an anti-clockwise direction to help the flow of parents entering the gate
    • Please do not stand directly in front of the gate whilst waiting

Collection of pupils from Arthur Street:

    • Single children from Y2, Y3 and Y4 are collected from this entrance
    • Again, please do not call children to you from the gate - please enter the car park and wait behind the kerb

Thank you for your understanding in trying to keep all the children safe.

    Mr Beale

  • School closure - Monday 19th September 2022 - The Queen's State Funeral

Mon 12 Sep 2022 Mr Beale

    Dear Parents/ Carers,

I am sure you are aware that the Government have announced that the Queen's state funeral is due to take place on Monday 19th September and that as a mark of respect, this day will be a public holiday.

This means that all schools, including Regents Park, will be CLOSED on that day.

We will reopen as normal on Tuesday September 20th at 8.40am.

Just a reminder that during the period of mourning leading up to the 19th September, school will be open as normal every day.

    Many thanks,

    Mr Beale

  • Welcome Back - Some info for parents at the start of the new school year 2022-23

Tue 06 Sep 2022 Mr Beale

    Dear Parents/ Carers,

We hope you have all had a wonderful summer holiday and that you are all healthy, safe and well. We are looking forward to welcoming back all the children to Regents Park tomorrow on Wednesday 7th September at 8.40am.

Below is some information for parents at the start of the new school year 2022-23:

    School start dates:

    • School reopens for all of Y1 to Y6 tomorrow (Wednesday 7th September) at 8.40am. Please note that there will be no Breakfast Club this week - this will restart on Monday 12th September (see below)
    • Reception children have been given times to arrive on Wednesday and Thursday this week (7th & 8th September) and will be staying in school for part of the morning or afternoon. They will then do a full day starting at 8.40am from Friday 9th September.
    • Nursery children have been given times to arrive at school during the week beginning Monday 12th September and will be staying in school for part of the morning session. They will then begin their full morning sessions from Monday 19th September.

    Arriving at school

    • Just a reminder that children can enter school at any gate (Arthur Street, Camelot Way or Dixon Road).
    • Children are expected to arrive at school at 8.40am so they can take part in Start of the Day activities in class although the gates will remain open until 8.55am. Please try to drop your child off as early as possible.
    • Children should be accompanied by parents up to the gate. Children in Year 1 to Year 6 will then walk in to school independently.
    • Parents of children in Reception and Nursery may wish to come in with their child during the first half term in the Autumn term in order to help settle their child although we ask parents not to stop too long if possible as this can sometimes have the opposite effect. We hope that by November, parents will be able to drop Reception and Nursery children off at the gates also.
    • Please do not drop off children early and leave them waiting unsupervised at the school gates - children that are left unsupervised is a cause for concern and may be a safeguarding issue.
    • Children should arrive at school on time so any child that arrives after the gates are closed at 8.55am is late and should be taken by the parent to the school office where they will be signed in. Again, it is not acceptable to leave children at the gate on Arthur Street when they are late and ask them to walk in.
    • Parents will be asked to come in for a conversation with a member of school leadership if children are often late.

    Breakfast Club

    • Breakfast Club will restart on Monday 12th September
    • Breakfast Club will be available for children in Reception to Year 6
    • There is a cap on the number of places available for Breakfast Club. The cap will be for 60 places and these will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. We will keep a waiting list if there are more than 60 children wanting places.
    • There is a fee of £1 per day for children who attend Breakfast Club to contribute to the cost of staffing and the cost of providing breakfast.
    • However, there will be no charge for those children who are eligible for Free School Meals – this will be subsidised from Pupil Premium funding.
    • Parents who wish to send their children to Breakfast Club will need to sign an agreement and will be asked to pay for each half term in advance, e.g. a 6 week half term will be £30 paid on sQuid
    • We will keep a register of children that attend. If children do not attend regularly, their place may be allocated to a child on the waiting list instead.
    • Parents that no longer wish their child to attend Breakfast Club will be refunded the remaining balance for the half term and their place offered to a child on the waiting list.
    • Unfortunately, we will not be able to give refunds for children who are absent or only wish to use the Breakfast Club on certain days of the week.
    • Breakfast Club will begin at 8.00am.
    • Children should be dropped off by parents at the Dixon Road entrance where they will be met by a member of staff.
    • Please note that the Dixon Road gate will be locked at 8.15am and no children will be allowed to enter after this time until the gates reopen at 8.40am.
    • Parents must make sure that children have arrived on time and that they have been met at the gate – please do not leave children outside the locked gates.

If you wish to reserve a place at Breakfast Club for your child this year, please contact the school office from Wednesday 7th September (preferably by phone or email) to put your child’s name down on the list. We will confirm places to start on Monday 12th September by Friday 9th September.

Arrangements for collecting children at the end of the school day

We are continuing to ask parents to collect children at the end of the school day from specific exits in order to minimise crowding, make it more manageable and ensure children are collected safely.

Most children will continue to be collected from the same gates as before although there may be changes for some Y1 and Y4 children as well as children who had siblings in last Y6.

Here is how we will organise the arrangements for collecting children at the end of the school day:

    • All pupils with siblings in school will be released from the main playground; Parents collecting siblings may enter the playground from either the Dixon Road or Arthur Street entrance but are expected to wait behind the marked line until children are sent to them.
    • Nursery, Reception, Year 1 , Year 5 and Year 6 pupils with no siblings will be released from the Camelot Way entrance
    • Year 2, Year 3 and Year 4 pupils with no siblings will be released from the Arthur Street entrance.
    • Wherever children are collected from, the children should tell staff when an adult is there so they can be released. Please do not call children from one end of the playground to the other.
    • Parents should collect children and then leave the school site as quickly as possible
    • Children in Y5/Y6 classes can go home alone but only if parents have informed the class teacher.
    • Parents should make every effort to pick children up on time. Parents that are not collected at 3.00pm will be taken to the school office and parents will need to come to the Arthur Street entrance to collect them
    • We will monitor late collection of children and, if necessary, we may charge parents who are regularly late £1 for every 15 minutes if their children are not collected from the office by 3.15pm.

    Uniform

Just a reminder for parents that we expect children to start the new year wearing correct school uniform. Last year children were allowed to come to school in PE kit or in clothes to wear in the Forest School; however, some children took to wearing clothes which were not school uniform on days that they weren’t supposed to.

It is an expectation that children wear correct Regents Park school uniform and have at least a jumper/ cardigan/ sweatshirt with the school badge on to wear when on trips or off-site.

Please make sure that you have correct school uniform for your child at the start of the new term with your child’s name written or sewn into it:

    • White shirts or polo shirts
    • Bottle green jumpers, cardigans or sweatshirts with the school badge on
    • Grey or black trousers or skirts
    • White or grey socks
    • Black shoes (not trainers)
    • Bottle green, black or grey headscarves
    • No jewellery

Children will be told on what days they should come to school in PE kit. They should still wear their school jumper/ sweatshirt/ cardigan on PE days. It is helpful to make sure that PE kit also has your child’s name written or sewn into it.

    Correct PE kit is:

    • A plain white t-shirt
    • Plain black or grey shorts or tracksuit trousers
    • White socks
    • Plimsolls

Children in Year 3 also go swimming and so will need to bring a swimming kit and towel on swimming days. On swimming days, children will come to school in their school uniform and change into their swimming kit in the changing rooms at Sparkhill Swimming Baths.

Uniform such as sweatshirts, cardigans and shirts with the school badge on can be ordered and bought from the school office. Alternatively, parents can buy a sew-on school badge to attach to sweatshirts, cardigans or polo shirts bought elsewhere. Please contact the school office for more information.

We look forward to seeing children and parents and welcoming you all back to school tomorrow.

    Mr Beale

School is now CLOSED for the Summer holidays! We hope you have a wonderful and relaxing Summer holiday and we look forward to seeing you for the start of the Autumn Term in September.

Take care and see you all then!

    Mr Beale

  • Monday 18th and Tuesday 19th July - School closure from 12.30pm

Sat 16 Jul 2022 Mr Beale

    Dear Parents/ Carers,

The updated forecast for Monday is that temperatures may reach an unprecedented 40 degrees in the West Midlands with temperatures likely to rise above 36 degrees again on Tuesday.

Having considered the potential risks to children from heat exhaustion and heatstroke, like many other schools, I have made the decision to close school early on Monday and Tuesday at 12.30pm. Unfortunately, there are many parts of school that do not have adequate ventilation to cope with excessive heat. Even being outdoors is a risk as advice is to stay out of direct sunlight; unfortunately, we don't have enough shade in our playground for all the children.

As such, I believe the sensible thing is to close school at 12.30pm after the children have had their lunch. We would like parents to collect children at this time from their normal collection points. Children will be given remote learning to complete either online or on paper.

Obviously, there may be some parents who who are unable to collect their children as they are working. If this is the case, please contact the office on Monday morning to let us know and we will organise for them to stay in school and complete their work.

Please don't forget that children should come to school on Monday and Tuesday in non-uniform. It is suggested that children wear light-coloured, loose-fitting summer clothing, preferably short sleeved shirts, shorts and dresses - no long sleeved sweatshirts, jumpers, jackets or cardigans. Please make sure children have sunscrreen and sun hats.

On Tuesday afternoon, we were due to have our second Y6 Leavers Assembly. I will contact parents on Monday about how we will organise for this assembly to take place but it is likely to be rearranged to Wednesday morning instead.

I'm sorry for the inconvenience that may be caused by closing school early on Monday and Tuesday but I hope parents will appreciate that the children's safety and wellbeing comes first.

    Mr Beale

  • Extreme Heat Predicted - Monday 18th & Tuesday 19th July 2022

Fri 15 Jul 2022 Mr Beale

    Dear Parents/ Carers,

I'm sure you are aware that there is a Met Office weather warning in place for next Monday 18th and Tuesday 19th July. The Met Office have now upgraded the warning to a Red Extreme Heat Warning across parts of the UK including the West Midlands meaning that temperatures will be in excess of 35 degrees and could be in excess of 40 degrees.

This will have an impact on what we do in school on those days. We will try to put in place as much as we can to keep children safe and avoid putting children and staff in danger of heatstroke or heat exhaustion.

We will try to keep classes well-ventilated and keep children out of direct sunlight as much as possible. Children will have access to lots of water and will be discouraged from any excessive physical activity.

Children will not be required to wear school uniform next week. Parents should make sure that children are wearing appropriate summer clothing, ie. loose fitting, light coloured clothing. Children should wear short sleeved shirts, such as t-shirts, and summer dresses or shorts. Children must NOT wear long sleeved sweatshirts, jumpers or cardigans - they will be asked to take them off if they do wear them. Children should also bring sun hats and may wear sunglassess and sun screen to protect them.

We will monitor how children are coping with the extreme heat but it may be necessary to close school early in the afternoon if we feel that children are at risk or are not coping with the weather - please make sure your contact numbers are up to date and you are available if we need to contact you.

    Many thanks,

    Mr Beale

  • Summer Fayre - Friday July 15th 1.00pm to 3.30pm

Fri 08 Jul 2022 Mr Beale

    Dear Parents/ Carers,

We would like to invite you to our Summer Fayre that will be taking place on Friday 15th July at 1.00 - 3.30pm. This will be a lovely opportunity for you to come into school and have a fun afternoon with your children.

Children may come to school on that day in non-uniform (£1 donation for School Fund either in cash or via sQuid). There will be stalls selling food and drinks, a penalty shoot-out, Splat The Teacher, bouncy castles, mendhi, face painting and much, much more!

The money raised at the event will go to our School Fund which contributes to the cost of the children’s educational visits, special resources for activities and many other things that benefit your children in school.

Entrance to the Summer Fayre will be via the main entrance at Arthur Street which will open at 12.45pm where you will be able to sign in before collecting your children from 1.00pm. The other entrances will be closed.

Collecting your child during the Summer Fayre:

Once you are in the playground, Year 3, Year 2 and Year 1 children can be collected from their classroom doors.

There will be staff standing next to signs at locations in the playground who will be able to arrange for children in Year 4, Year 5, Year 6 and Reception to be fetched to the playground for you

    Collecting your child at 3pm:

We would like all parents to come and join their children and have fun at the Summer Fayre on that day but understand that some parents may not be able to. If you are unable to attend, your children will still be able to take part in the Summer Fayre supervised by staff and you can collect them from school as normal at 3pm. Children should bring a small amount of money to spend (max £5).

At 3pm, all children who have not been collected earlier will be collected from the playground at the locations mentioned above. Please enter the playground either from Arthur Street or from Dixon Road. Camelot Way will remain closed.

Obviously, if the weather is not good on the day we may need to change the timings and some of the events. We will update the school website and Twitter page and send you texts to let you know.

Thank you very much for your support - we are looking forward to having a fantastic time with you all!

  • Parents Afternoon - Wednesday 13th July - 1.00pm to 4.00pm

Wed 06 Jul 2022 Mr Beale

    Dear Parents/ Carers

Next Wednesday 13th July we will be inviting parents to come in to school for our end of year Parents Afternoon. Parents will be able to book time slots to come into school and visit their children's classrooms, speak to their teachers and collect their end of year reports.

We will be inviting parents to come into school from 1.00pm until 4.00pm. As before, you will be emailed this afternoon (Wednesday 6th July) at 12.00pm so you can book your time slots. Please book them as close together as possible allowing 10 minutes to move from one class to another.

Please only arrive in time for your first appointment. We are trying to stagger the arrival of parents to keep everyone safe.

We would ask you to arrive via the main Arthur Street entrance and then walk round to the hall via the playground where you will be able to sign in.

Up until 3.00pm there will be children in the classrooms with their teachers. You'll be able to have a look at some of your children's work, have a brief chat with the class teacher and collect your child's report. Once you have finished and visited the children's classes you will be able to take your children home early. Please sign them out when you exit via the hall.

If you can't arrive before 3.00pm, you can book a time slot up until 4.00pm, just collect your child as normal and arrive on time for your appointment.

If you are unable to attend, your children's reports will be available from the office for you to collect at a later date.

We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible next Wednesday afternoon.

    Mr beale
